Crazy Taxi Gazillionaire
The glowing days of becoming a father my brain was forever shattered by exhaustion. It was also clearly rewiring itself for The Rest Of My Life. It was 202X and the pandemic. Just myself and Lady Rude to make sure the new life would survive.
You can’t really /play video games/ in that circumstance. I certainly played a lot of freeform Destiny, because you can walk away from it at any time and who cares? This also led me to reinstall Crazy Taxi Gazillionaire which was just about to be delisted and the servers turned off.
It was an idle-clicker game with not hideous aesthetics. I clicked and made decisions and the baby cried and I put it away. I could play it for 10 seconds or 10 minutes and it was the same.
The servers and connection the ads was turned off. I could never get multiplier bonuses. Except, oddly, last year on the shinkansen to Matsumoto it worked for a day. I still don’t understand that. The point is the grind was long.
In January 2024 before I left for a funeral, before I was cut open, I unlocked and finished Crazy Taxi Gazillionaire. The reward is the option to start fresh, all over again.
Like seeing the ending of many games, I was suddenly free. I no longer felt the need to get my 4 minutes of clicks in. Strange how “finishing” also means “release”. Watching the credits of a game and suddenly the side-quests can remain undone. Uninstall is all the more clickable.
It’s still there, and I can and do occasionally open it up. I then close it with no fan-fair.
