Rudie’s 2023 Fukubukuro

Shoot The Hinges

I know my own tiny internet legacy at this point. As far as internet legacies go, it isn’t bad. No one roasted me on twitter about it. I had filled my stomach with Kentucky Fried Chicken and possessed a drink with so much sugar no one would be safe ever again. I had propped up my digital camera on PS2 games and then recorded myself laughing at not doing something in a video game. I slowly uploaded it to the internet and eventually my distant cousin found it somehow, and linked it on Kotaku.

It doesn’t have 100,000 views. I keep wondering if that will happen.

I know this piece of Video Game Performance Art caused meetings. It made people beyond my own friends circle think about video games. This year I went back to Call of Duty Black Ops and reviewed it on my very unsuccessful podcast HINGE PROBLEMS. We reviewed it as a critical narrative object. I was maybe too obtuse with my own jokes. We maybe yelled too much.

What may be shocking is despite how often we talk about process and being nerds making a podcast we do have secret rules and guidelines and produce the show. I always call Hinge Problems Warmovis a show not a podcast in private. It is pretentious if I also didn’t mean it. If you want unedited audio with desyncs and ums and silence and fumbling, you can get that elsewhere.

I can still remain proud of this website/podcast/essays. That it expressed a critical insightful view of art. That we deep down care about art and the world. Maybe more podcasts will come in 2024. It will remain not a Video Game Podcast.

It is a creative collaborative project in which Real Friends Do Have Arguments. Maybe sometimes we bring too much of our life into the recording. Sometimes the end result isn’t worth letting other people. More often we are just sad because we do think the result is good.

Maybe making a war movie podcast in the pandemic or even a new podcast by nobodies is the problem. Hinge Problems, perhaps.

The preceding has been a review of We Are OFK one of the worst pieces of media I have ever experienced. We can all do better.
